Château Mouton Rothschild
Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
Birthday week.. It’s more like Oct 31st-Nov 4th where I’ll pull a few legends from the cellar.

Oct 31st, 2018One of the wines my dad had set aside for me on my birthday as a young kid. You could tell it's not far from going over the hill, but there was still a lot going for it and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent earthy, mushroomy nose, touch of cigar box. Overall it was getting a bit thin on the palate, but was still delicious.

Also, this was the year Pablo Picasso died. Indicated by his artwork on the label as well as his lifespan. Mouton stayed true to their style regardless of their designation. "Mouton ne change" to me that is purity in totality. Still alive, lots of red fruit and pyrazinic qualities. A green austerity with a vineous sweet and sour essence. This wine makes you reflect on life. I am very happy with the soundness and overall quality with this bottle and I'm elated to say its still going strong. If you like wine that has had time to fully evolve, this is a benchmark.

Dec 30th, 201542 years old from a "coulda should woulda" vintage. On its way out. Still remarkable.

Feb 21st, 2015Fairly rewarding for a light vintage which actually did not help the severe Bordeaux market at the time. Great producers do make the biggest difference in off vintages. Definitely drink up although some will surprise, as usual ...
