Dec 5th, 2022Pontet Canet tasting and dinner with Alfred Tesseron.
The fruits are dark & muted. Blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, blue fruits, plums with strawberries come on late. Lots of moist clay, dry soils, deep dark spice, crushed, rock powder, graphite, black, dry soils, hints of green bell pepper, dry herbs with blue, dark withering flowers. The acidity is round but could be better. The long finish is balanced but, for me, comes up short and a little flat.

Heck of a hosting by @Weston Eidson last night for the City Club wine group. All wines were tasted blind.
Tart and youthful. Underripe black cherry, blackberries and herbal on the nose. Leather, cassis, cherry tobacco and crunchy cranberry on the palate with gripping tannins. Decanted 4hrs and needed it. I called this mid 2000s left bank Bordeaux.

Still very good but not as rich as I expected it. I liked it more in 2009. At this point I would wait for that pauillac terroir to shine through (5-10years from now) pleasant but didn’t show the way some of the other Pontet canet has recently

Feb 20th, 2019Lovely nose of violets, cranberry, red currant, mocha, petrichor, and charcoal. The pallet is muted comparatively, but enjoyable.
