Chommie
Western Cape Cabernet Sauvignon
Pinotage not Cabernet. I was a little scared to try this since I just finished reading a wine book that was very anti pinotage. But it was much better than I was expecting, not the best but it’s not offensive. Probably good for when you don’t want to think too much about the wine you’re drinking. On the nose I immediately smelt a familiar scent that was driving me crazy and that I’d never smelt before in a wine. Soon I went to my pantry and figure out what it was. SESAME SEED OIL! It has this strong earthy scent that is exactly like sesame seeds. Once I figured that out it was hard to smell anything past the sesame. The taste however it a mix of earthy sesame and raspberry. It paired the best with goat cheese and awfully with pretty much everything else I tried. It’s probably best with something where you want to bring out the earthiness. Maybe lamb or mushrooms
