Jan 1st, 2022Previous vintages of this band-harvested and destemmed, foot-crushed, unfined and unfiltered blend of Scheurebe and Muscat have been quite nice, but as can happen with such a natural wine, there can be a great amount of variation from year to year, and batch to batch. This bottle of the 2017 has a pungent and persistent note of horse manure - really no other way to put it. Tons of minerality, yeastiness, and citrus rind on the palate, but it can't make up for the overwhelming, throat-grabbing taste of animal shit, which lingers and lingers and is just what one imagines it might taste like from the odor. Filthy with huge globs of mucosal brown sediment throughout. Better luck next time, Christian.
