Wow. A spectacularly fragrant nose of red and black cherries and violets. On more than one occasion I have been hypnotized by a wine's "nose" only to be disappointed by the palate. In this instance the nose was strictly foreplay. An avalanche of fruit that is held in check by its structure until it is unleashed in a wave of red and black fruit, baking spice and minerals. Hoping age will bring out even greater complexity.

Wanted to both like this and be unimpressed with this because of the recent takeover, the history of stylistic change, etc But this wine had the most vibrant and mouthwatering acidity out of the gate and I was forced to pay attention. The flavors and nose are a relatively subtle black cherry liqueur without any overripeness. Still felt fairly primary but some earthiness and soil tones present. Among the most impressive California pinots I have had. Would still place it behind Rhys Alpine and Peay Scallop Shelf for aromatic complexity, at least on the basis of this bottle. But fairly singular acidity.
