My first Hermitage, and another wine checked off my bucket list. This one was all smoke and sweat and roasted meat. The 20 years since this was bottled stripped away almost all the fruit, making way for leather, pepper, bacon, black olives, dried flowers and game. Karen MacNeil called Hermitage "the manliest wine I'd ever drank" and she definitely had a point. Northern Rhone syrah at its finest.
