Domaine de la Janasse
Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend
Dark ruby in color with a wide dark brick rim.
Earthy nose of blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, earth, forest floor, green vegetables, graphite, spices, bitter herbs, river rocks and black pepper.
Medium bodied with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with cherries, raspberries, currants, oak, tobacco leaf, spices, graphite, bitter herbs, black tea, wet leaves, vinaigrette and peppercorn.
Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 7 year old Châteauneuf-du-Pape is drinking nicely now, even though this was not a good vintage, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.
Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Very earthy with some old closet notes 😁
Needs an hour to open up properly. Nice and enjoyable with nice balance.
Good by itself as a sipping wine by the porch and a good food wine too. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.
Robert Parker 91 points.
A blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and the rest, Cinsault and Mourvedre.
15.5% alcohol by volume.
89 points.

Jun 1st, 2017Embodies everything I love in S. Rhône wines. Deep, velvety, joyful, complex, immediate and captivating. Lovely in so many ways but the balance grabs my attention the most. Everything in its place.

Apr 16th, 20172011 is very solar with intense notes of dried plum. But Janasse VV is IMO one of the best expression of the vintage with a controlled bouquet of aromatics.
