Tasted blind. Dark murky red color. Notes of cherries... black cherries, tart cherries, lotsa cherries. Some cranberries and a little herbalness too. Masculine and brooding in the mouth. Seems really big, with tannins still present and lots of acidity. I guessed 95 Dugat Griotte. This needs another decade or two of slumber to develop more. Brought by a friend who said this was the first bottle he pulled from a case he bought on release. I hope to remain his friend.

Grand finale of a blind tasting of 12 1996 Burgs. This was easily the "youngest" tasting of the group. I actually did not rate this first. That's how good four of the wines were. This has got an easy twenty more years of life. Elegant and rich.

Another baby! Tons of acid and beautiful, pure fruit. Give this guy time. Lots of time.

A slightly awkward bottle, but it pulled together after several hours. The nose retained its classic LT pungency throughout, opening more with time, while the pallet oscillated but straightened out down the wicket. In perfect condition I would rate closer to 97.

1996. Sadly still a little tight and closed. So much lurking beneath the surface. Any funky edges are covered and streamlined by the piercing clarity afforded by the freshness of the acidity and the finest of the tannin. 97+ points.

And then, it sings.... Like the Milenium Falcon going in hyperspace, the nose of this wine sends you to directly to another dimension. This is complex, floral and concentrated. The mouthfeel is absolutely unbelievable, with a crazy unstoppable finale. A true experience
