Domaine du Cayron
Gigondas Red Rhone Blend
Gigondas, Southern Rhône, Rhône, France

Beautiful old vine Grenache (w/some Syrah, IIRC), youthful redfruuts, just a trace of Brett, which I think here adds complexity, lingering finish, very fine Gigondas!!

En Magnum. I have been pretty critical of this vintage in the past, finding it too lean and acidic, particularly compared to the great bottles from the 1980s. The fruit seems a little riper and the acid less intrusive than my last bottle from 2021, not sure how much further this will improve, but at least in this large format I can hope (I have 1 more magnum).

Still dark purple color, nicely balanced redfruits, clean, some structure still, medium-long finish, but ultimately tastes like young Grenache. When younger, this seemed to lack weight and was very acid; it seems now like it might need another 10-20 years. Confusing to me (at best)?!
