My first time with the controversial 2003.
Purchased on release and right to storage. Opened and immediately decanted.Poured like a 5 yr old wine not a 19 year old wine.
The best way to describe both the nose and palate, anonymous. If it were served blind, I would never guess Chave Hermitage. Tasted more like a mid-level Australian shiraz or even an amarone . Structure was there but flavors were approaching shrill. Perhaps what impressed me the most was how the massive alcohol level was well concealed.

2003 is still 10+ years young. Plenty of tannins from both oak and fruit, and gobs of ripe black fruit. A "manly" wine and has some metalicism, iron, plums, blackberries, violets, and pepper.

I've been using Coravin on these. They are insanely pretty wines. I've had bottles of each previously and they are consistently great. A week after opening the 99 Janet it was just as terrific - thanks to Coravin

Great wine but a bit out of sync when compared to better vintages of chave heritage blanc. Still a deep and rich wine like you'd expect but maybe the hot vintage and high alcohol throws it off.
