Douglas Green
Rib Shack Red Pinotage Blend
A surprisingly great red - as others have said. A very drinkable wine, but of smokiness to it, bold and quite red fruity.

Nov 11th, 2017Beautiful old fashion rambling red rose color with loose stripy legs. Subtle notes of cherry, plum, & a hint of vanilla on the nose. No acid or sugar. Mild red fruit, followed by a tantalizing dusting of Dutch cocoa with a touch of spice for a smooth, near tannin free finish. It’s missing the smokey Pinotage and peppery Shiraz finish that we expected. (Kale & greens salad w/ blue cheese, Smoked ribs, & baked butternut squash w/ Tim) we will drink this again - if we can find it another day!

Nov 4th, 2017Big, deep smoky full flavour, yet very drinkable. Says Extra Smooth on the label and it is quite smooth. Nice wine. Best paired with flavourful grilled red meat. A little on the sweet end for me.

Dec 30th, 2016Interesting blend. Am always curious to see how the Pinotage is handled. Have experienced both the rich depth of the grape and on other occasions the dreaded acetone paint like blast.
Happy to say this one is blended and aged well to create a fairly decent wine for the price point.
While not a stand alone sipping wine, when paired with the namesake red meat or otherwise heavily spiced fare the top notes of the Pinotage begin to shine.
Not a great nose, but not harsh. Blended with Shiraz it has a medium light body lacking serious depth, slightly acidic without being tart and a relatively smooth finish.
