One wine two wine red fruit blue fruit, great acidity, great finish and tannins. Never heard of Ehlers, had it at a tasting last year and we were just floored, very nice CF from St. Helena. They also do a rosé on this same wine, which is also very intriguing.

Jul 1st, 2017The 2013 Ehlers Estate Cabernet Franc, Saint Helena ($60), is one of those wines that tastes so darn good, you know that the written word won’t do it justice. It’s crafted from 100% organic, 100% estate cabernet franc from our loamy soils. It’s powerful, yet retains a sense of balance and elegance from Old World, hands-on production techniques, from vineyard, to tank, to barrel, to bottle. Black fruits, vanilla, and spices envelope the palate. The finish goes on forever and frankly, I don’t want to stop sipping it. This wine is the result of outstanding terroir, vineyard management, and winemaking that I am blessed to witness on a daily basis. Who's in for some cabernet franc pleasure? Pours garnet in color. ON THE NOSE: cherry, cola and a woody herbaceousness. ON THE PALATE: sour cherry, tobacco and plum. A slight menthol finish. Medium bodied medium finish.

This Cab Franc has held up wonderfully. On the nose: baking spices, forest wood, vanilla, clove, slight slate, red fruit. On the tongue: baking spices, cherry, strawberry, vanilla. Maybe a little much on the oak. Good mouthfeel, tannins present but pleasant. In its prime now until the next 3 years or so.
