@CrockerStarr 2015 Sauvignon Blanc (SRP $34): This is a very enjoyable Sauvignon Blanc from last night’s #CrockerStarrLive tasting. This wine was barrel fermented in 68% stainless steel, 20% used French, and 12% concrete egg. It’s fruit-forward and juicy, with vibrant acids balanced against tropical, orchard and ripe citrus fruit flavors followed by notes of peach skin and lemon peel. The palate boasts a lovely texture and great balance. Winemaker Pam Starr says, “There is nothing better than Sauvignon Blanc and French fries.” Trust me; this pairing is at the very top of my list this weekend! Only 1,200 cases of this wine were produced. Region: St. Helena, Napa Valley, California. Other info: ABV 14.4%, 100% estate-grown Sauvignon Blanc, 100% whole-cluster pressed, aged sur lees post fermentation for 8-9 months, cork enclosure. Linden 2006 Hardscrabble Red: This Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine is medium-bodied, supple, and rather streamlined. It offers up a mélange of red berry compote, sun-dried tomatoes, savory herbs, and spice box flavors -- neatly tied together by [Linden’s trademark] well-focused acidity. Rustic yet charming, this is an excellent food wine; especially with earthy dishes. For my friends unfamiliar with the wines of Virginia, this is a producer to put on your radar. Expect well-made, estate-grown red and white wines that are acid-driven as opposed to flavor-driven. Cheers! #Virginia #wine #vawine #winelover #wineblogger #wineconsumer — 8 years ago
Harken 2015 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay (SRP $15): This budget-friendly wine will surely appeal to those who prefer some richness and barrel character in their Chardonnay. It leads with inviting aromas of pineapple tart, spiced pear, holiday spices, and vanilla cream against a backdrop of sweet buttered toast. The aromas extend to the palate where flavors glide across a slightly rich texture with balanced acidity providing good lift. There’s a generous dash of baking spice in the medium-long finish. A friend of mine, who regularly drinks this Chardonnay, says it’s a great bottle for movie nights at home with a big bowl of popcorn.

Ehlers Estate 2013 Cabernet Franc … High-toned red fruit joined by purple stone fruit, brown spices, vanilla bean, a wisp of floral perfume, and mineral notes; seamless texture, admirable length. This is a delicious wine from a great vintage that’s intended for sharing at the dinner table with family and friends. Dark plums, roasted coffee beans, smoke, warm barrel spice, and blackberry fruit merge together in this reasonably priced (under $20) bottle of 2009 Medalla Real Carménère from @SantaRitaEst. A bit meaty and fleshy, this wine is best enjoyed with smoked, cured, or grilled meats.

There’s a good reason Torrontés is gaining in popularity. Argentina’s signature white wine grape produces wines that are affordable, refreshing, and very aromatic. It’s an ideal wine for warm weather months; Torrontés will keep you cool and works well with a myriad of summer dishes. This example from @RutiniWines, who has a viticultural history in Argentina dating back to the 19th century, is like summer in the glass. Pear, white stone fruit, honeysuckle, and rose petal merge on the nose and palate. Bright citrus acidity provides good lift and frames the flavors – a very drinkable, enjoyable and budget-friendly bottle of wine (SRP $10) that you may want to work into your summer sipping rotation. Cheers!
