Dolcetto is rarely transcendent. This is one I’ve truly been impressed with. More stewed fruits as it revealed itself. Bold but not over the top.

Elio Altare’s 2013 Dolcetto d’Alba is a great introduction to the wines of one of Piedmont’s most inspired growers. Lavender, violets, plums and black cherries are all supported by bright acidity in a pulsating, vibrant Dolcetto full of personality. (AG)
