St. Emilion is becoming my favorite value region in Bordeaux. The wines are age-worthy and relatively inexpensive, and strike a balance between the soft wines of Pomerol and the tightly wound monsters from the Medoc. This 12-year old $32 bottle is delicious. It’s still pretty youthful, but it is displaying some secondary characteristics. The texture is rich and velvety. The tannins are present but silky. There’s some green pepper from the Cab Franc, but Merlot is definitely the dominant force here.
