Famille Perrin
Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend
4 weary workers drank well tonight.
This was a striking experience. Every disparate element of the wine seems to charge along on parallel planes so that each mouthful is a choose-your-own-adventure. It flies through a range of crunchy red, to floral purple, to sultry black fruit on lithe, peppery tannins. Somehow the texture is creamy -- like an au poivre. All sorts of garrigue and charcuterie, fresh and saline, mingle with newly ripe berries, and as the thing takes a preposterously long time to finish you realize how perfectly acid has been holding everything together.
I may not yet have had the privilege of trying other legend status wines with which one could draw comparisons but this was by far the most complex bottle of (still young!) juice I’ve ever tasted.

Just a baby, but this is open now. Aromas of blue and black fruit, and on the palate it has that wonderful herbiness and long complex finish I associate with Beaucastel. I really love this. Should be killer in a few years.
