Here’s another interesting white blend I couldn’t go past on the Good Pair Days website recently. Introducing the 2018 Fetherston 'Magnolia' Garganega Gewürztraminer from Victoria’s King Valley.

It was interesting looking into the winemaking process of this wine, here is what they say on their website:

“Gewürztraminer - pressed straight to older French oak barriques. Fermented wild with regular bâtonnage, followed by 5 months maturation. Garganega – 75% was destemmed and spent 6 days on skins. 25% underwent three weeks carbonic maceration. Both batches then pressed to older French oak to complete wild fermentation. Matured for 5 months prior to blending.”

It was drier than I expected so I didn’t quite get the food matching right for this one therefore I definitely preferred it more as an aperitif / Netflix companion.

In the glass it’s a bright yellow with a golden shimmer to it. On the nose I picked up stone fruit, citrus peel, sea salt and vanilla smoke/cigar. While in the mouth it’s dry and refreshing with a decent length finish on it. I was picking up flavours of pineapple, lychee and citrus.
