While it is not a BAD wine, it's not exactly what I would deem a good merlot. Upon first sniff/taste, I commented that it was very light and fruity for a merlot. My husband, who had been outside grilling, came in and sipped his and promptly stated the same thing, much to the delight of our kids. It may hold up well to a pork or white fish, but it certainly didn't go well with our steak.
