At my 2015 Chardonnay Challenge the Giaconda was a consensus 3rd. Easily the most smoky, sulphidic, struck match of the 6 wines. I loved it. On the palate a powerful wine. Opulent. This wine is becoming difficult to source and sells out in a flash upon release.

Funky, very sulphidic and smoky - very struck match …. but it works with nectarine notes. As I said in the previous note, Is this the best Chardonnay in Australia? Becoming hard to get when I bought a few bottles of the latest vintage a week ago. Like a quality Premier or Grand Cru white Burgundy. A medium bodied palate but the palate intensity is profound - off the charts. Soon I will have a blind tasting of 2015 Chardonnays with friends and include some Burgundies with wines like this, Leeuwin Estate, Heytesbury and Yattarna.

Pale Lemon in colour. Smoky sulphidic notes - struck match to the max - like a burnt matchbox factory. A totally different story on the beautiful medium + bodied palate verging on opulent. A sweetish peachy palate - downright delicious. Some good judges say this is the best Chardonnay in Australia. If not, definitely in the top 3. Wonderful with fresh oysters.
