I know less about Rioja than George Costanza knows about women. But damn, this one is pretty good. End of bin special at Binnys so at $24, this seems like a steal. A real nice weeknight drinker.

It took about 2 hours to tame down the strong barnyard smell, but it did not really bother me. And once it got past that, the nose became quite attractive with nice mix of red and black fruits, caramel, roasted coffee bean, hint of incense and leather. On the palate it was quite dense for a Rioja, with sharp acidity and a light raisin taste, finishing off with long tingling peppery note.
Great price for a 10 year old Gran Reserva.
