Man, kind of disappointed in this bottle.. had high expectations but I guess I should hold judgment until it ages a bit. Syrah, Grenache, mataro, and viognier blend from barrossa/Eden valley. A bit light and one dimensional on day one, but day two it really showed its potential. Richer and more structured on day 2, with a nice balance of cool high toned fruit and dark fruit and earth, but still not enough going on to really "catch" my attention.
Still cool to try this iconic producer however.. hopefully I can get my hands on some of their nicer stuff in the future.

Next up in my Wine Selectors 'Australian Shiraz Showcase' is the Henschke 2015 'Henry's Seven' Barossa Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro & Viognier blend and what an awesome food match I have for you! We picked up a block of 'Noir' 85% Dark Chocolate from Cuvée Deniz Karaca Wine Connoisseurs range and it was HEAVEN with this Aussie Shiraz blend.
On the eye the wine is a lovely deep yet bright red with notes of cherry cigars, hints of mocha and some leafy/earthiness to it on the nose. In the mouth it's juicy.... decadent... and covers every taste bud in your mouth with flavour. The fruit forward cherry flavour is absolutely perfect with the dark chocolate making it like a Black Forest dessert in your mouth, but better! I need these two in my life again.

Clean, silky flow compare to the usual Barossa: this Henschke is more on the eden valley Cool climate style. Blackberry the primary fruit that pops out with some hits of star anis and cloves, but very subtle. There is also an underlying notes of chalk and flint. Cool climate Rhone valley style than the robust Australia. I would love to try the hill of grace one day.

The ratings here are a bit harsh, I found this to be very approachable today with a bountiful nose and equally pleasant palate of spice and berry. Again influenced perhaps by being on the seaside here in eastern Australia but I’m convinced I’d have enjoyed it at home as well!
