Jamsheed
Illaj Yarra Valley Syrah
Dark ruby. Ripe black and blue fruits on the spice-accented nose, along with a floral nuance and a hint of cola. Plush and open-knit, offering appealingly sweet blackberry, cherry and candied licorice flavors and a touch of smokiness. Discreet tannins come in late on a persistent finish that echoes the cherry note. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, September 2022)

I picked this Yarra Valley Syrah for last month's #thetcwineclub box 📦 as I knew it'd be a fab winter warmer and partner to hearty winter meals. The producer is Jamsheed and the name of the wine 'Illaj' refers to the legend of the Persian king 👑 who discovered the healing powers of wine. In Arabic, Illaj means 'remedy'.
It's a brilliant dark red-purple colour in the glass. From savoury farminess to sweet new plastic and rosé potpourri - it's safe to say this 2015 Syrah is highly aromatic. In the mouth it's full bodied with cherries, tomato leaf and a coffee infused oak finish. Definitely not for the faint hearted and teamed with our pizzas very well!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #tcweekdaywine #tctastingnotes

Nose is great smells of balanced dark fruit and then.. woah. Highly sweet and tart with a lip smack of confusion. Not expecting that sweetness.

Dec 24th, 2018#leoncircle pick. Not my favorite (notes of leather and mushroom), but I learned to come around to it.

Sep 20th, 2017A bit of that black pepper, but much more bright fruit and floral aspects to the nose with cherry and dried flowers pushing through to the forefront. Super plush texturally without feeling too loose...a surprising amount of depth to this wine. I generally like my Syrah to have a more rigid backbone but this is beautiful and delicious for the money.
