Jarvis Winery
Estate Grown Cave Fermented Finch Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay
Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!
Ben and I wanted to do a flight of Jarvis chards, so he brought the ‘11 Finch Hollow. The color difference against my ‘14 Unfiltered Finch Hollow was drastic! Much more amber in color, as though it had been oxidized a bit. It has an amazingly sweet nose...someone mentioned it was slightly reminiscent of botrytis. Lots of honey and marshmallow cream aromatics. It tastes like Werther’s Butterscotch, candied ginger and baked marzipan. You gotta love the style. Delicious. Thanks @Benjamin Keator .

Sep 27th, 2014OMG! The age has deepened the color to gorgeous golden/amber. The oak has softened and the fruit bolted out! Caramel, sweet baked pear, wild honey hints of vanilla and lilac. A tour de force! This is my favorite Jarvis to date, damn I wish I had another bottle....

Dec 12th, 2020Always love it. Big oak with big butter but completely balanced. I wish I could afford this for my everyday wine. Lord knows the Jarvis family can still eat steak nightly if they charged $30 instead of $130 bt

Sep 3rd, 2016Wow, almost at the end of the line, but the age has done it well. Honeysuckle and depth.

Mar 8th, 2016Butter and crisp apples and baking spices. Very tight. More butter, crisp apples and some spices with buttered toast. Medium acid. Great stuff, but needs a lot of time.

Mar 8th, 2016I was nervous we had held onto this too long at first, but it opened up beautifully during our dinner. Still the most beautiful Chardonnay I've ever tasted.

Oct 25th, 2015Love this full bodied wine with hints of pear and vanilla. Bold with a smooth finish.

Mar 27th, 2015Delicious chilled and even more spectacular (and quite different) as it warmed. I am saving another bottle for a special occasion. Can. Hardly. Wait.
