Jean Paul & Charly Thévenet
Vieilles Vignes Morgon Gamay
Catching up on my notes. This was much better than the last bottle. Enjoyable, but it was crazy that this Gamay felt heavier than the Nebbiolo on the table. In its defense, it was up against Luca Roagna’s deft touch (see my notes on the 17’ Gallina). Despite its hefty structure, the Thevenet Morgon still had plenty of energy. Whole cluster goodness and plenty of red cherries. The palate was full-bodied with a supple texture. It had a touch of candied “sweetness” but plenty of acidity to keep things lively. Finished spicy with suggestions of minerality. One to revisit on a better occasion.
