Jul 10th, 2014This is destined to be a truly polarizing wine. I drank it out of curiosity, being a wine intended to capture a sense of place and time. Grapes grown according to biodynamic practices, wild yeasts, no oak or wine processing aids, a short settling time and straight to bottle.
Bright purple in color and very dense. Shows the ripe, jammy features that have come to typify Barossa Shiraz. Primary red fruit and yeast aromas dominates the nose and follows through nicely on the pallet towards a medium length finish. Tannins are a bit gritty, lacking refinement.
Very reminiscent of being around a winery at harvest.
Overall, the wine is not terribly complex but is not necessarily intended to be. It was fresh, vibrant, fruit-forward, raw and accomplishes its goal of capturing a newly made wine that shows off the characteristics of the 2014 vintage.
Worth a try for the sake of curiosity.
