Kobalt
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
02' Kolbalt Cabernet. Last time I had this bottle was in 2010. I thought it needed a little time. Somewhat question that!?! Drinking it now on the tail end of its prime. Poured it straight into the decanter & filled up the glasses soon after.
Ruby red in color. Very little off of the nose. Palate- Classic, front & middle palate is full of black fruits. Subtle chocolate notes. Polished Cabernet with a backdrop of earthiness to it. Drink the 02's up. Want to try some of the newer vintages. If you have any suggestions?

Went with the Durand corkscrew, cork felt a little soft. Great wine though, oldest Kobalt I have had.
Drinks like an old Jones Cabernet
No bricking at all surprisingly

Second vintage from Kevin Carriker (I think Mark Herold was still involved at this time). Absolutely terrific. It's clear that Kevin's wines need a lot of time in bottle. Had this one several years ago and there is NO comparison. Surprised how much primary fruit one still gets on the nose, but the palate is classic, moderately aged CA cab. Beautifully sweet, integrated tannins. Great balance, with a silky finish. Unfortunately this is our last bottle, but it probably has a few more years left (but don't wait: it's drinking perfectly now!).
