Campi Flegrei Piedirosso

Piedirosso - red foot, originally referring to the stems on the grape clusters looking like pigeon feet. From a volcanic area know as Campi Flegrei, on the coast just north of Naples. Funky!

Very interesting wine. Piedirosso is very close to aglianico style, less bodied and medium + acidity. Pomegranate, dry red cherry and quince aftertaste. Very mineral.

How has Piedirosso thus far escaped the neo-Cal-Ital fray? Asking for a friend.
