Dec 26th, 2022Vintage 2010 | 3/4 transparant, awesome bouquet: red berries, cherries, leather, espresso, rosemary. After aeration the smell is like a peacock tail, beautiful expressions, multi layered. Powerful taste with a hint of almond bitters, lots of potential. Beautiful Sangiovese. Paired with risotto al funghi and parmiggiano.

Blueberries and spices on the nose. Took a while to open but started to really sing after 45 mins or so. Flowers, cherries, nice grippy tannins. Delicious finish.

This is an outstanding vintage of a wine that is always great, this time expressing a rather brooding and masculine take on Sangiovese, highlighted by espresso and smoked meat aromas. Dark and youthful colour with little opacity. It’s rich, yet savoury, poised and long on the finish but not overly tannic, everything is well balanced. Superb expression of the grape and the terroir, maybe as good as the 05 and better than the 08. Great value even at $47 via vintages online shop.

If in Umbria, Lungarotti merits attention. This riserva from a very strong vintage is already showing old leather, tar and dry cherry. A steal at 24 euro.
