M. Chapoutier
La Bernardine Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend
A delicious Châteauneuf from magnum, drinking beautifully at this stage in its eveloution. The 2010 M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Bernardine has both finesse and focus. The grenache really shines through with aromas of macerated strawberry and Bing cherries, a touch of underbrush and spice. It's a touch lighter and more restrained than I might have expected, this isn't a powerhouse Châteauneuf—fine tannins provide framework and structure, the core red fruited, complicated by white pepper and mineral nuance. Oct 21st, 2016Never a bad tasting day when Terlato shows up with the Chapoutier line-up. Classic white Chateauneuf, lanolin, high alcohol, some rocks, fun stuff.

Jul 24th, 2015Solid CDP. Well crafted and balanced (including the alcohol!) not a great wine but a very good example.

Jan 10th, 2015Great wine! Tons of red and dark fruit, juicy, with very special memories for me

Oct 6th, 2013Ripe, med bod, med acid, minerally, delicious. Terrific food wine. Tough wine to blind taste, but guess what, nailed it!

Jun 30th, 2013In the process of cleaning most southern Rhône’s out of storage. Enjoyed this one more than expected. Feels a bit more syrah-y than I anticipated in a good way. Dark and brambly with good fruit and some nice herby notes on the finish. Acid could be higher but still a nice wine.

Jan 28th, 2023Despite the appearance of softening purple ink, I think we were still a little early on this. Notable scents of garrigue and herbs. The palate was fresh. However, the typical jammy sweet fruit flavours were somewhat subdued and a little overwhelmed by the acidity. Perhaps just in an awkward phase? I think it’ll be great but there’s plenty of time left in the cellar before getting there. 100% my fault for opening too early. If you have one, wait 5 more years.
