Carnival of Love McLaren Vale Shiraz
Big boozy shiraz..despite its age its still a wild animal..black cherry dominates, pepper, super raisinated, acid diminished, oak, vanilla...alcohol at 16%. Still unbalanced...but it was tasty...

Jun 28th, 2020Raspberry compote and ripe raspberry, almost a 'Fruit by the Foot' profile. Still some oak present, and slightly hot from the alcohol still, consistent with other Australian wines with the same bottle age. This is under screwcap, perhaps that's contributing to the freshness. Subsequent bottles should be 2020-2024.

Jul 2nd, 2015Holy Hell. As good as I wanted it to be. Delicate. Complex. Delicious. Damn. Glad I waited a decade to open it. 😉

Aug 2nd, 2018From a magnum. Much better than some of the reviews I’ve seen lately. Maybe the large format helped. Really nice right now. I wouldn’t let it age much more

Oct 8th, 2017Was apprehensive at first as last time I had this (a year ago with Big Wave Dave) it was the cliche Oz Shiraz fruit bomb with high alcohol bordering on over extraction. On the second outing a lot more complex. Still classic cassis fruit and choc/tobacco overtones but not over the top and with some nice acidity still. Less spice than typical. Nice underlying tannin backbone. Lovely mouthfeel and medium body and finish. A little time has done its work nicely.
