Dark burgundy with violet undertones and a wide brim. A pretty standard Napa Cabernet nose of smoked oak, fragrant black fruits, and almost subtle vanilla. A big, full bodied bruiser of a wine, this edges close to the edge of too damn much but the addition of Cabernet Franc saves it. This isn’t a very subtle or complex Cab but there is something to be said for straightforwardness. Pleasantly not overoaked, the palate actually begins somewhat low key with blackberries and spice. After two hours, he mellowed out and showed more vanilla, chocolate mousse, and black tea.
