Paetra
"K" Willamette Valley Riesling
Revelatory stuff from Oregon. Exciting new producer is a painful understatement. Freshness & purity with some rich apricot-like fruit on the back end. Cannot wait to see what Paetra does next!

May 16th, 2017Another lovely, crystalline Riesling from Paetra. This is his "K" offering, referencing the kabinett wines of the Pfalz, where Bill cut his teeth, although it's good to note that this is a bit more dry than your average German kabinett Riesling. Simultaneously dense and nimble. Nose of wet granite, underripe peach, Granny Smith apple skin, petrol, sesame oil, a touch of some gardenia floral character, and some slight yeasty, saline lees character as well. Palate confirms the nose, with a bit more emphasis on the peachy, stone fruit aspects. High acid, just off-dry, and medium (-) body with a bit of texture from RS and some lees action. So yummy. This makes me crave some crispy pork belly. Definitely give it some air at this point.
