
My 2nd last 2018 Pooley Pinot Noir. Pale Ruby in colour, tawny shades almost transparent. The colour appears to have become paler with age - a characteristic I haven’t seen before. On the palate evidence of whole bunch in the ferment - herbal, stalky amid the red fruits. The pale colour belies the palate intensity. Coal River is becoming part of Tasmanian Pinot Royalty.

Pale to mid Ruby - almost transparent in the glass. Very primary with fresh red fruits on nose and palate. Light to medium in palate weight but medium plus intensity. Great to have an embryonic young wine for a change. A wine destined to win multiple awards on the Australian Show circuit - from the new hot spot for Australian Pinot Noir - the Coal River Tasmania.

Lovely and perfumed with hints of cedar. Immediately attractive. Beautiful balance and acid, leaning towards red fruit with some bramble characters. It’s gorgeous drinking now and I’d expect a lot more to come given some time. First tasting of a Pooley but won’t be the last. Paired magically with duck breast in cherry sauce.
