Simple and delightful enjoyment. Soft and approachable Bordeaux blend that goes beautifully with red meat. Drinking well right now, offering hedonistic pleasure without too many challenges. Still, best with food. — 2 years ago

Gave this a good several hours breathing before dinner, and it’s just starting to unfurl. Still young, but showing why it’s such a revered wine. Plenty of layers beginning to reveal themselves, berries, purple fruit and florals amongst them. Medium bodied and surprisingly soft on the palate, with tannins playing a secondary supporting role. Delicious drinking right now and will be amazing to revisit in years to come. — 2 years ago

Fruit forward, easy drinking style that’s also easy to like. Rolling smoothly over the palate at this age, tomato bush aromas, fruitcake and a wash of black and red fruit with supple but supportive tannins and almost a liquorice finish. Luscious and joyful drinking. — 2 years ago

Impressive volume of fruit that’s developed from this one. Nicely balanced and full, with a mix of red fruits, berries, florals and just enough texture to keep things interesting. Still plenty of life ahead of it, too. — 2 years ago

Gorgeous Polish Hill River riesling with a good dose of secondary development. Prominent kerosine and latex notes on the nose, but palate is still bright, sparking fresh citrus. Years ahead of it still. — 2 years ago

First taste of the 1er after having collected a few different vintages over the years, along with consuming plenty of their bargain priced Hoddles Creek Estate pinot noir. It’s a cracker. Drinking gorgeously now, having had a few years to integrate. Was having too much fun wolfing down tasty pizza with friends to make detailed notes, but it was certainly a pleasure to drink. — 2 years ago

Weight and heft! Definitely not shy. The intensity and volume is impressive, although perhaps not immediately approachable. A little stern. Perhaps some more time will see it develop? — 2 years ago

Bit of a change of gear following the Wendouree shiraz. Probably still a bit too young, but pretty and with firm texture. Red fruits and florals. I’d give it a few years and a lot more time to breathe. — 2 years ago

Always a pleasure opening a Curly Flat and this was no exception. A little sterner than the HCE 1er pinot noir that preceded it — tough act to follow — but quality all the way. — 2 years ago

Revisiting after letting it sit in the cellar for several years, and what a change. Such an enjoyable wine, with a lovely balance of some lemon notes and stone fruit, maybe nectarine. Nose a little shy but opening up, then a wash of concentrated flavour across the palate that gently lingers. Very easy to keep sipping. — 2 years ago
