René-Jean Dard & Francois Ribo
Hermitage Syrah
A bit tight. Opened up with some air. Really needs to be laid down a bit.
Just a fantastic concentration of Syrah-ness. Dark fruit, almost creamy/confectionery at times. Gravel and iron minerality. A bit of salami. Bright violets. Stems.
Great balance. I want to try some older examples.

A beautiful drinking Hermitage showing a perfumed nose of black fruits, meat, olives, mineral, pepper & violets.

Jul 28th, 2018Jalapeño pepper and olives on the nose right out of the gate. I would say green bell pepper, but there are some intense pyrazine notes going on here. Incredibly savory and herbal, almost like a stewed tamale in its peppery qualities. Silky smooth, one of the best mouthfeels I've had in any wine. Cherry fruit and ripe blueberry or boysenberry joins a bevy of meaty, chewy, smoky flavors that make this wine a meal in itself, or perfect to eat with some charcuterie. Round, full, and flawlessly balanced.
