Wanted to raise a glass to Kobe. 1978 was his birth year and the final year that had all the premier fruit! The following year all that amazing juice went to the first bottling of Opus One. This was very emotionally impactful for us. Amazing wine!

Deeply ruby color with little bricking wouldn't revel it's advanced age and neither would the tart fruit and lush body. Pruney and woody intensity and mince pie savory balancing.

Medium light garnet , wide terracotta rim . Rich quite ripe fruits , sunny and incredibly inviting . On the palate lovely balance between sweet ripe dark fruits and freshness with touches of liquorice and grafite nuances . Long and balanced on the finish , lovely fresh acidity , resolved rounded tannins . Perfect now and over the next 5-8 years, I would imagine at end of its peak .
