From Saturnalia in the Gulf Islands off Vancouver. Awesome weird combo of chipotle, okra and oysters -- or some kind of hit oepper. Bet you ain't got one !

Oct 16th, 2013Alright, this one was an experiment... Back when Saturna Island Vineyards was a thing (Sea Star Winery has just done a harvest of the old Saturna grapes this year in 2018 after a few years growing wild), and then before that when Saturna Island Vineyards sourced many of their grapes from the Okanagan, was bottled this beauty for the 1999 vintage. It was the era of the Ross Penhall labels which was by far the best branding they've had. This is now nineteen years after the vintage and I thought I'd give it a try. There was significant sulphur on opening this wine so we let in breathe for 2.5 hours and decanted it vigorously. The resulting liquid was restrained on fruit but still had a distinct lime note as well as some hazelnut in there. A very full mouthfeel made it pleasant but without the liveliness of its youth. A fun delve into an old bottle.
