Smells and looks exactly like a good Langhe. Brick red with aromas of dried cherry, menthol, mint and other herbs. Medium weight palate - M plus tannins; M plus acid - typical again. As good as anything I’ve had as a Rosso from Piedmont. Myself and fellow judges made this the Grand Champion of the Toowoomba Wine Show in 2019. Also Trophy, best other variety red, 2018 Adelaide Hills Wine Show. Have written previously about Steve Pannell’s expertise with alternative varieties.

Talk about a happy surprise, as my first Australian Nebbiolo, courtesy of Stephen Pannell and the Adelaide Hills, lifts from the glass in a gorgeous display, showing bright cherry, peppery herbs, both rosy and violet florals, hints of tobacco, and cedar shavings. On the palate, silky textures usher in petty red berry fruits, seeming to hover across the senses with ease, turning more to cranberry and savory spice, as a mix of round tannin and minerals settle in. The finish is long, echoing tart red fruits with a tug of grippy tannin, yet not overpowering, instead in perfect harmony, as pretty inner florals and spice linger.
