S.C. Pannell
Adelaide HIlls Syrah
The 2014 Jimmy Watson winner, and what a ripper it is. Needed a decant and a good splash to open up and reveal all the blue and black berry fruit and spice that made this such an enticing wine in its youth. Elegant, savoury and delicious!

Jul 31st, 2022Dark Ruby with Purple rim. Aromas of Mulberries and dusty cherries with low oak influence finishing with soft tannins and medium intensity. Steve Pannell is a master of alternative varieties in Oz like Tempranillo Touriga and Nebbiolo but here he addresses his talents to Syrah in the Adelaide Hills and does a great job as usual. Won the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2014 in Melbourne.

A look at the 2014 Jimmy Watson winner, elegance stands out here. Lovely red fruits and a gorgeous slippery mouthfeel. Hint of pepper and spice, all things nice.

Mar 28th, 2016Jimmy Watson winning beauty here. Adelaide Hills style Syrah. The layers are perfect. Such depth of fruit yet it's not blousy or overdone. Pannell is knocking them dead with every thing he touches. This is bordering on perfection. So drinkable but years in the dungeon will do it no harm at all.

Nov 22nd, 2015The 2014 winner of the Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Melbourne RNA for Best One Year Old Dry Red. Purple Red in colour. Nose not giving as much as it will in the future. Some spice. Full bodied palate with firm tannins. Steve Pannell is winemaker of the year in Australia and deservedly so IMO. He very rarely uses French Barriques preferring stainless steel and large old oak barrels a legacy of spending vintages in Barolo. A big future for this wine is assured.
