2008 M. Étain Cabernet Sauvignon from the Cohn Ranch in Rutherford, Napa Valley. Second label from Scarecrow. Inaugural vintage. Made by Celia Welsh. 15% alcohol. Literally translated, “Monsieur Tin.” The Tin Man to go along with Scarecrow. Still waiting for The Cowardly Lion. Maybe a nice Chardonnay? Gorgeous dark garnet color. Aromatic nose of espresso and cocoa. Some nutmeg and baking spices as well. Just beautiful. Killer palate of sweet dark chocolate-covered cherries and black plums. Nuances of cedar, vanilla and that mocha that I love. Silky tannins round out a pleasurable experience. Lush and velvety texture. Lingering finish. MUCH better than I remember this wine which was opened closer to release. 10 years has been a godsend. As many of you know, I don’t drink much Cabernet, even though I love it. But when I do, I’m reminded of how much I truly love the grape.
