Seavey Vineyard
Napa Valley Merlot
Day 2 of Napa in the books!
Tar, streak of black cherry down the mid palate, charcoal, cherries jubilee, and floral. Not a pop and pour style, and definitely a nice take on right bank style Bordeaux wines.

Jan 24th, 2019The nose reveals dark currants and a slight smokiness. Ripe; lush blackberries, black raspberries, black plum & blue fruits. Black licorice, dark rich earth, limestone, volcanic minerals, vanilla, cinnamon, dark chocolate, blue, purple & dark red fresh & withering florals.
The body is full. Tannins big, dry & dusty. Ripe, lush blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, blue fruits, dark rich earth, limestone, volcanic minerals, loaded with dry crushed rocks, vanilla, cinnamon, dark chocolate powder, touch of balsamic, violets, blue, purple & dark red fresh & withering florals. This is a big Merlot that needs a long cellaring time. The structure, tension are huge. The length and balance are very good and should be special with 10-15 years of cellaring. It’s a big finish that doesn’t end. 92 with potential for more with proper cellaring.
Photos of, The Seavey Barn that is their winemaking facilities and tasting room, grapes being sorted and conveyor belted up to be destemmed, view of their animal farm area from the property and Estate vines with surrounding hillside.

The 2014 Seavey Merlot is in the zone right now. Although a lot of Seavey offerings take time to develop, this Merlot can either be kept or consumed. But, after having this one I just don't know how much better this will get. It is balanced well between brambleberry and slightly underripe plum on the front, herbs and a hint of a nitrogen note in the middle. Acidity is good throughout. Well structured, this wine went well by itself and also went well with a chicken burrito. Finished darker than it started. I think this one is right where it needs to be right now. I think you could hold this for 5-7 years but really just is a nice drinker now.

May 23rd, 2020Thick and inky. Dark berries, baking spices, Bramble and cacao on the nose. the pallet is lush, acidity hits upfront with a lingering tannic structure that’s let’s me know this has plenty of life left. Definitely drinking well now. There’s an added floral element to the pallet I didn’t quite get in the nose, like a lavender. Yum.
