Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

Nice to see that some Cali vignerons occasionally move away from the new-world, contemporary examples of this varietal. The nose is soft and round, with notes of white tea and cedar. Palate purrs like a cat. It’s more delicate and lithe, with a silkiness on the mid-palate. Red fruits mingle with mild tannins. Finish is elegant and polished. I’d be very interested to come back and have.another look at this a few years from now. For sure, it will compliment delicate foods, perfectly. But also has the stature to stand on its own.

Virtual tasting with Texture Wines and winemaker Erich Bradley. Big thanks to @Joe Lucca for setting it up.
Anderson Valley fruit. A blend of Ferrington Vineyard and Deer Meadows. Somewhat surprising is that this is 100% destemmed. Based on how the Lucky Well chardonnay was so old world in style, I’d assume some whole cluster or stem inclusion, but based on vineyard location, they feel like the tannin can be easier to achieve and there is no need to increase.
I only gave this about a 30min bottle decant and while it was approachable, it was significantly better at the 3+hr mark. Initially, it was driven by a slightly syrupy/maple richness that seemed out of place. It dominated the other aspects (candied black cherries, potpourri, baking spices) but eventually yielded to a more lifted profile and added black pepper spice. Day two picked up where day one ended showing a more elegant and spice driven profile. I’d say this probably won’t get much better, but definitely give it some air.

@Joe Lucca was gracious to set up a virtual tasting for the Wine Nerd Herd with the team from Texture. It was a very informative evening. Opened for about an hour prior to pouring the first glass. Mushroom, jar of muddled red berries and mixed brown spices leap from the glass. Wine has slightly more weight then I like, yet misses nothing on depth. Sappy red and blue fruit with a crushed strawberry feture.

14’ Texture Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. Wow… I enjoyed the Chardonnay. There Pinot blows it out of the water. Exceptional bottle of wine. @Joe Lucca My friend this is insanity! Must decant this for an hour. Better in 2019!

Awesome style; there is an obvious tension between fruit and minerals here. Best with some air. As my man @Mike R would say, SMILES.

Sep 18th, 2017Raising a glass to @Diana L tonight for a personal best in the Philadelphia Broad Street Run. The 2014 vintage of this is a bit brighter and cleaner than the '13. The nose screams of the terroir, cool, earthy and gravelly. Crystalline cherry fruit on the palate; lively acidity reveals nice layers. Clean and lasting finish.
