If you don't decant in a wide hip basin for at least 30 minutes, it won't blow out properly (comes off uber-fruity and disjointed with a burnt-clutch aroma), and you won't get the RunRig of legend. And it IS legendary. I drank the 2003, for reference. I think this is the greatest Aussie Shiraz I've had. There's every spice in the pantry, with gamey meats, smoke galore and juicy dark fruit (at least 3 different raspberry components). If you want something between Aussie and N. Rhone style, this is it. Those who say it is chemical or fruit bomb heavy haven't decanted it properly. This isn't my first RunRig. You just have to serve it right. And I normally dislike expensive Aussie Shiraz, for reference.

2003- to start with, I'm not the biggest fan of Austrailian shiraz.
Really tied up on the nose in the beginning. Opens up with black fruits, charkuteries, smoke, chocolate, tobacco. Not that bad but doesnt really appeal to me. Taste similar notes as the nose but the fruit feels dusty and no real freshness left, the acidity doesnt really hold up. Not that impressed and this wine doesnt get me going.

Just about my favorite wine in the world. Velvety and viscous, with strong notes of coffee, leather, and spice. Supremely enjoyable. Wine Advocate gave the ‘03 a score of 99, and it’s hard to disagree!
