This is a dreamy wine. Starts with intense sweet stone fruits, raisins and leather. Midpalate morphs into cocoa, bright cherries and black pepper. Finish returns tons of bright fruit. It is a bit heavy on the alcohol, but overall, truly lovely. — 10 years ago

It is good. Lots of tannins. Good fruit. Cherry. Leather. Tobacco. Long finish with tons of cocoa. 2011 is a tough year. Definitely would like to taste the 12 or 10. — 10 years ago

A very nice example of white Bordeaux. Going to go nicely with Suppe di Mare. Nice a bit of flint at the start. Subtle apricot & I get a bit of flowery orange blossom. A nice citrus twang on the finish. No real grassy notes, nor grapefruit, like its New Zealand brothers. — 10 years ago

Stephanie's creation, made from fruit from David Fulton, is really amazing. I met Stephanie in 2005 while she was pouring at Casa Nuestra in Napa. She's since started making her own Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2011, which is gone, was very Bordeauesque, replete with subtle dark, fruit, leather and earthy notes of fall. Her 2012 is much brighter, and is typical of a finely crafted Napa Cab. Well balanced, with cherries, cocoa, cinnamon notes. It has a solid backbone that will hold up to at least 10 years of aging (in my humble opinion), however, kudos to you if you can wait that long. It is truly a dream wine. — 10 years ago

I found this 1996 Aluvium at the wine and beer shop around the corner. It was on the close-out stand and was $25.00, so I figured I would chance it. The cork split on opening, but the wine is good. The wine is the color of a reddish rhodolite garnet. Leather, currants, smoke, dried tobacco and dark cherries on the nose. In the mouth, the first thing I noticed was that there are still some tannins floating around in this bottle. Right off I get cherries and a mineral-like taste, which morphed into an eucalyptus flavor. Midpalate showed blueberries, leather, campfire smoke and cherries. The finish lasted forever and was cherries and cocoa and dried tobacco. For an almost 20 year old wine, I was impressed. Definitely worth the $25. — 10 years ago
