Wolf Blass Red Label Unwooded Chardonnay 2013. Quite buttery on the nose, like most Chardonnays. Not a huge fan of Chardonnays, but I’ve had this for awhile and finally tried it with some friends. Exactly how I thought it’d be. Might enjoy if you like Chardonnay, but I can’t really judge as I’ve never been the biggest fan. — 5 years ago

VOGA Italia Moscato. “During fermentation, the carbon dioxide is retained giving the wine a ‘frizzante’ character.” This is what gives this wine it’s uniqueness. It’s not sparkling, yet has that slight fizz which when mixed with the sweet moscato grape, is sweet and refreshing. The cherry on top for this wine is the different style of twist off top which I think is cool and different from “normal” screw caps.
As for the actual taste and aroma, it’s sweet and refreshing on the nose, and the taste is the embodiment of “fresh sweet grapes” as advertised.
On the contrary, I would steer clear of this wine if you enjoy your wine less sweet, as it’s definitely a sugary patio wine.

Leonardo Chianti Reserva 2012.
Opened yesterday and thought it was past it’s prime. Tried some today as I’ve heard this stuff takes some time to breath and it’s at least actually drinkable today. Very dull on the nose, slightly smoky. Pretty earthy taste, remnants of blackberries. In short I’d say I’ve learned my lesson again to not buy a bottle of wine based off the labels I like.

2016 Gil Family Estates Tempranillo Rioja Honoro Vera. My friend got this for my birthday around this time last year, and it’s my first time trying Rioja. Unfortunately, this wine leaves me wanting more. It’s quite bitter and thin. Slight taste of blackberry, not much after taste. I must say, it makes me hesitant to try other Tempranillo’s in the future, but if course I won’t judge the whole grape variety from one bottle of wine. — 5 years ago

J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon 2017. The smoky/oaky smell hits real powerful on the nose. This wine is predominantly 14% alc, with viscous legs to prove. Aging potential is definitely there in this wine, with the website saying cellaring capability of 5+ years. I wouldn’t say that I enjoy this wine with how powerful it is, but it is kind of growing on me. This is definitely a wine I wouldn’t be able to have more than 2 glasses of however. There’s is a slight taste of blackberry, and although it’s quite smooth, there’s definitely a potent alc taste.
Nothing too special here, but I would probably recommend if you like your red wine powerful, and for a cheap price (I would say around low $20’s)

Barefoot Bubbly Pinot Grigio. Bought this around thanksgiving time last year, while on a walk with my friend Jacob. I thought it was iconic because of how much I was into research of the human foot for my job, plus I love sparkling wine, so I had to try it!
Sweeter than I thought it would be. Really fresh on the nose. Apple like taste. Partially because of the cheaper brand name, and also because of the sweetness, I would say it is a cheaper tasting sparkling wine. It’s not bad by any means, but won’t be as enjoyable if you don’t have a sweet tooth.

NK’MIP (Inkameep) Cellars Dreamcatcher 2019. Someone from my work and I started talking about wine the other day and we both bonded over Okanagan wineries. So we decided to bring each other a bottle, and this is the one she gave me. Boy was she spoiling me. I believe this was this wine she was telling me stories about selling out quickly here in Calgary, so she usually stocks up when she can, and she really spared a bottle for me! My aunt actually had a bottle of this wine from 2014 that she never drank and just gave to me, and my colleague was joking that it was wasted and far past it’s prime time. So one day, we’ll have to see if this wine ages well when I crack that open! 😂
There’s a pear/apple like Riesling smell. Real crisp, light, and fresh taste. Ever so slight dry feeling in the mouth after you swallow. Absolutely spectacular. I found myself wanting another glass, after glass.

Township 7 Rosé 2017. At the winery, this Rosé was described to me as being “quite manly” as a lot of men who claim they usually don’t like Rosé cause it’s pink, actually don’t mind this and end up buying it. It’s definitely a different tasting Rosé, and packs a punch. So I wouldn’t recommend if you’re hoping for a more traditional Rosé.
There’s a light taste of strawberries, but I can’t pick up much more than that personally.

House of Rose Sweet Mystery 2016. This was described to me as a “white wine drinkers red” while at the winery. It is quite sweet without much kick, so I can see why. “Table or dessert wine, serve room temp alone, or chilled in summer.” Sweet and berry like smell and taste. Not much complexity to it, which isn’t a bad thing, rather I think it’s the main point. — 5 years ago

The View Well-Heeled 2015. (I know this is a funny looking picture, I did a panoramic photo to capture all the detail around the bottle, as a photo of the front and back wouldn’t display it all properly.) When I visited this winery while in the Okanagan, I wasn’t blown away with any of the wine that I had during the actual tasting, so I bought this spontaneously to give it a try. It’s not half bad. While still technically being a fortified wine, I think it’s better from being branded as a desert wine. Which I enjoyed because it’s not as dry and tannin like because of this. Smoky nose. A curious sweet taste with a slight dry and lingering aftertaste. I wouldn’t be able to have too much of this, but for a small glass or two as desert, it’s good. — 5 years ago
