There are so many wines for me to choose from, right in my "backyard" (New York State), and I hardly ever give them a chance. I tried a couple over the years, but nothing really blew me away. From what I have been hearing lately, there have been huge improvements with New York wines. Well I am going to start my conquest, and test the New York "waters" again. I started off tonight with something from North Fork, Long Island- I decided to open up, a 2010 Duckwalk Merlot Blue Duck. This wine is pretty good, especially for the low price point of $10.00! Color -ruby Bouquet-strawberry preserves, wet stones, and white pepper. Palate-red fruit, spice, and sour cherries on the finish. — 11 years ago
Browsing through my latest catalogue of Wine Enthusiast, while having a night cap. Wine of choice while browsing, lol: a 2011 Caparzo Sangiovese! This wine is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Alicante. This wine is very soft, and silky smooth. Although I enjoyed this wine on its own, I think it would pair great with different Italian dishes. This is also the type of wine you could open up on thanksgiving with your family, so you don't have to worry about your family members not appreciating your expensive wines, lol! Color-deep dark Ruby Bouquet-Aromas of violets, dark fruits and red fruits such as: Black berries and black cherry. Palate- On the palate you get red and dark fruit, with nutmeg and dark chocolate. The tannins are silky smooth on the palate, with a nice coating on the finish. — 11 years ago
Wine of choice for this evening: A 2010 Mas Donis Barrica . This wine is 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah. "Aged in American and French oak barrels for nine months", South-west of Barcelona, in the Llaberia hills. Very good wine for the price point. Color- ruby with a purple background Bouquet- lively and fresh, with berries and dark fruit. Palate-velvety and smooth coated, with berries and a hint of spice on the back end. I could definitely pair this wine with an array of different meats. WA(Wine Advocate) 92 — 11 years ago
While watching the sorry looking Giants tonight(lol), I decided to open up a 2010 Mill Brook Hunt Country Red! I am still on my "New York state wine quest", and so far so good. This wine is a pretty decent "table wine". Not as good as the last, but decent. This wine is a red blend of Merlot, Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel, and its from Dutchess County, New York. They give a great description of facts on the back of the bottle, like 100% Malolactic Fermantation, barrel aged for 9 months, and harvest time from October 15-30 2009. Like other post, I get into more details down below! Color- real deep maroon Bouquet- dark fruits like blueberries and plums, with earth Palate-dark fruits like black raspberry, and dried herbs. With some spice, and gripping tannins. — 11 years ago
Bottle of choice from the fridge this late night: a 2011 Calera Central Coast Pinot Noir. I am on my Calera train this week it seems, lol-last night was a Chardonnay from Calera, tonight a Pinot noir. I must admit, I am now a big fan of the Calera wines so far; this Pinot noir was awesome! The wine is light in similarity to many Burgundies, but has the fruit common with most California wines. I will be definitely drinking more Calera Pinot noir in the very near future! Color-ruby Bouquet-crush cranberries, with raspberry jello . There is definitely some light earthy notes, as well as floral notes. This wine has a beautiful bouquet Palate- cranberry, raspberry flavors with nutmeg and a long spicy finish...awesome! No special occasion, just opening this wine because it's been a long tiring week, lol! I'm an advocate of, if you work real hard, you should reward yourself, So I am rewarding myself, or rather my palate, lol, tonight with this wine: Elisabeth Chambellan Châteauneuf Du Pape 2011. Color-deep ruby Bouquet- full of berries and other red and dark fruits Palate- deep dark fruits, silky, soft, and elegant. There's some acid at the end as well. Still more time to show more of its quality. — 11 years ago
After a long day, I decided to open up some vino tonight! Wine of choice: a 2010 Tarima Hill. The grapes in this wine are the Monastrell grapes, which I'm not too familiar with. The wine is from the Alicante region of Spain , in which I am not too familiar with either. Since I am always interested in something new, I was very curious to try this wine out. If there was any doubt about the quality and taste of this wine, tasting this wine made me a huge fan! This is a great example of where a lovely bottle, matches the lovely wine inside. This wine is excellent, viva la España ! Color-Garnet Bouquet- a wonderful bouquet of dark fruits, coffee, caramel, vanilla and leather. Palate-dark fruits, cigar, spice, and milk chocolate leave you palate with a nice silky coating on a long finish. — 11 years ago
Yesterday evening I decided to drink a 2011 Calera Chardonnay Central Coast. I was in a "New World" state of mind last night, preferably Chardonnay, lol !So I said to myself, why not go for something I have never tried before? I have never had anything from Calera, so it definitely drew my attention. Some facts about the Calera: this wine is made from grapes sourced from several different vineyards throughout the Central Coast, with an alcohol percentage of about(you feel it, lol) 14.6%. Overall this wine is some decent Chardonnay. — 11 years ago
While looking through different car manuals, to see what car I'm going to buy in the very near future, I decided to open up a bottle of wine to help ease my decision making, lol. Wine of choice: a 2011 George Vigouroux Gouleyant Malbec ,Cahors France. This is a terrific "value wine" for the price point! There are many people who are not too familiar with Malbec's from France(Original origin), and that's why good gems like this go unnoticed. This wine has some Bordeaux Characteristics. Me being a huge Bordeaux fan, is probably why I enjoyed it so much! Color- deep ruby Bouquet-on the nose you get all types of dark fruit, cocoa with molasses and jam notes. Palate- on the palate, this wine comes off pretty well balanced. You get all types of berries and other red fruits, with butter, spice, and black currant. The tannins are mild, and the finish is pretty long. — 11 years ago

I Love going to a wine shop where I can have a great conversation with one of the Wine Merchants, and earlier today I experienced just that! This great conversation included the wine merchants recommendation: A 2011 Domaine de Fenouillet Terres Blanches Beaumes-de-Venise hailing from Southern Rhône- 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre . I am loving this wine right now! This is another clear example of why I have become a huge Rhône fan! Needless to say, this was a great recommendation. Color-deep ruby with a black cherry background Nose- crushed berries, cool wet stones, and pepper flakes. Palate- berries, dark fruits, very soft texture, with soft tannins, and some sweet spice on the end. — 11 years ago
