oddero's 1996 "rocche dei rivera di castiglione" falletto (today: mga "scarrone") did a fantastic job. an ultra classic and perfectly mature barolo. it does not reach the same heights as the 1996 "vigna rionda", "bussia-mondoca" or "rocche di castiglione" and it needed some time in decanter to open up. lots of dried flowers and berries, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite and road tar. the tannic backbone is very good and brings structure. the saturating minerals and acdity keep the wine very alive in the palate and in a nice finish.

Accomasso. Years ago most didn't know him or not care about his wines. Now his Baroli are among the rarest worldwide. Good or bad? What an honor it was to taste this uber classic beautiful 1996 "Rocchette" (official single vineyard in "Rocche dell'Annunziata, la morra) from this outstanding vintage recently. Dark berries, cranberries, smoke, road tar & torched earth. Still a firm tannic structure, I loved a lot among the flavors of first maturity. A very straight, austere and honest Barolo that shows the traditional character of what Nebbiolo can be. Hope to stumble upon another 1996 again someday... — 6 years ago

What is a perfect wine? What is the best wine one can ever have? I found my personal answer again: the Bruno Giacosa Barolo "Collina Rionda" Riserva 1989. This wine has it all, all I could wish for in the beauty of Nebbiolo. The nose alone was so intriguing; a basket of fruits of all sizes and colors is jumping out of the glass together with mild incense. In the palate the wine shows its perfection. Weightless but yet so intense und powerful with myriad flavors of red and black plums, fruitcake, saturating minerals and iron. The feminine elegance and finesse meet the masculine & darker characterstics that are so typical for Serralunga. You can only find this magic interplay in "Vigna Rionda". The tannins, acidity and fruit are in an incredible harmony and make this 30 years old wine appear so young. The finish is sweet and endless. This wine is a story told from the glass to the palate. The greatest story ever told. — 6 years ago

the oddero 1998 'vigna rionda' showed as always very classic and with myriad flavors that i love so much about this eminent serralunga site. lavender, iron, blood (orange), blackberries, cured meat and eucalyptus mingle with vivid tannins and a notable intensity in the palate. what a great wine, once again! — 6 years ago

Very Fresh, especially in the context of the 2011 vintage. Certainly, the magnum format helped to preserve the freshness. A classic, typical Nebbiolo with integrated wood. Rose petals, red flowers, berry mix and a smooth tannins in company. So round, yet not showing any heat and cooked flavors. A great showing for a Langhe Nebbiolo that is now 7 years old. Bravissima Chiara! — 6 years ago

what a great wine! correggia's 2015 is terrific, in fact the best version of this wine i have ever tasted! the azienda matteo correggia has created a wine that unites both the beauty of the masculine & feminine side of nebbiolo. black & red stone fruit, chestnut, finesse and saturating tannins & minerals... all in all, an overwhelming mouthfeel. can't wait to see this wine age — 6 years ago

A special bottling of the producer Villadoria, 100%-owner of the "Cappallotto" MGA in Serralunga d'Alba (next to "Baudana" & "Meriame") and home of the famiglia Lanzavecchia. "Paradiso" is the official single vineyard here (best exposition, old vines). The vinifciation is traditional in botti grandi. A very beautiful, succulent entry level Serralunga Barolo, showing quite youthful in 2010, as expected. Dark fruit, menthol, lavender and a bit of leather are the prime flavors. High tannins, that are well integrated. Pretty good structure and length. — 6 years ago

annata 2017. always a very interesting wine/varietal: grignolino. i sometimes get it a bit like a blend of ruchè & freisa. fruit tea, spices, rose hips and seaberry. a bit angular, with edges, in the palate, but overall quite pleasant. — 6 years ago

Still rather fresh with red and black cherries (also some jam), smooth vanilla and a very good balance of acidity and sweetness. Round and full in the palate. Perfect to drink now. — 6 years ago
