PnP. Cork shattered on open. After some surgery and a makeshift Durand, cork was out and we were rockin. 14% AC according to the bottle. No bricking even though this is now almost 20 yrs old. A bit of must on open that quickly blew off. Nose and palate were consistent with each other, scorched earth, charcoal, forrest floor, bing cherries with a nicely integrated hint of oak. Black olives showed up every now and then. Tannins were gone. This went quickly and seamlessly. A great bottle of wine...and a nice mix up from the typical over extracted Napa wines I really like. I hope the others I have are just as good. — 8 years ago
My first Roy Piper and wow, off to a great start. On open delicious nose with fruit and perfume. Gave it 3.5 hrs in decanter. Not sure what to expect out of this, but best '11 I've had so far. Some early faint green notes at 2.5-3 hrs. As I tried bits over the decant. At 3.5 this darling was open for business, baking spice, red berry fruit, blue fruit along with a perfect complimentary oak note that finished off a medium finish. Mrs. Geaux loved this too. Silky tannins and a bit of acid red fruits let you know this can survive a few years and reward even more patience. 94 for now...2-3+ points potential. Well done Mr. Piper, well done! — 8 years ago
2 hr decant and it needed it. This has significant life left as there is plenty of acid and tannin left. Early this showed cherries, saline and soy at 1 hr. We started drinking at 2 hrs with significant blackberry, black cherry, cedar, graphite and pencil shavings. Consumed over 90 min and raspberries began to show up near the end, but even then still some tannins and acid left. Interesting to see where this goes in 3 years. I would've put this as a 2010. Good, but has room to get even better, even at 11 yrs old. — 8 years ago

Lovely and opulent. Dark blue and black fruit, perfumes nose, similar palate along with silky smith tannins and hints of wood. Blackberries, blackberry liqueur, raspberries, raspberry liqueur. Some secondary herbal notes starting to come alive (e.g., sage) — 8 years ago
