A fantastic looking bottle from Portugal, this was pleasant in all aspects without wowing in any category. A nice fruity aroma, well balanced throughout with reasonable length. Easy drinking and for supermarket wine absolutely fine — a year ago
A nice bottle from Plan de Dieu in the Rhone. As promised by the label, this wine is complex with a heavy fruit presence, think smoky cherry and plum, and a back end of cedar. A very easy drinker without food, but would happily pair with robust meals - steak and casserole recommended — a year ago
Bought from a tesco for a painting workshop, this stood out as one of the most consumable bottles available. On the nose slightly sharp, but the palate was much more balance with floral and light citrussy notes, as well as the typical chardonnay butter flavour and texture.
Enjoyable and reasonable for £9, but I wouldn't rush back — a year ago
The Squealing Pig's Sauvignon Blanc from Switzerland - the first step.in understanding what type of white wine I like! This was £8.50 from ASDA with reasonable reviews and an appealing label.
On appearance, this was a clear, pale yellow with initial aroma is both fruity and floral with the expected Sauvignon Blanc bite. On the palate it's dry and gives notes of stone fruit like peach and gooseberry. Again, the acidity it quite prominent without being completely overpowering, this was improved by bringing the bottle out of the fridge and letting it warm to a little. I found this to not only soften the acidity but bring more roundness to the character, enhancing the floral note.
Definitely enjoyed this one closer to 10-12°C, a good start! — a year ago
A roller coaster of a wine, not what was expected but an adventure - not to everyone's taste.
Part of the 150 anniversary series this Carmenere from Errazuriz with indeed heavy of black berried fruit, well spiced with with a unique cocoa and yet acidic length to it. Colour is a dark purple-red that reflects the deep taste.
This not an easy drinker by any means, but a bit of an adventure that keeps you thinking. Pairs with food well which brings down its bite, I will definitely be trying the rest of the range. — a year ago
A very fresh Riesling from Hunawihr in the Alsace, this was nicely aromatic with notes of stoned fruit, pear and a biting acidity that balanced out well. On the nose this had a strong scent of kerosene that I've read about, but never quite believed! This didn't transfer to the palate and was an interesting feature.
What would seem to be a standard French Riesling, enjoyable drinking but nothing mind boggling. — a year ago
Fantastically fresh with a good amount of honey to it, this is certainly a Gewurztraminer on the sweeter end!
With a partner who preferes the sweet white wines, this was a great aroma of fresh apples and honey on the nose. When drinking this was well balanced with a sweet honey focus and less bite other Gewurztraminers than were tried over the week from Cave du Turckenheim.
Really enjoyable and one we'll go back to! — a year ago
A wine out of a friend's family cellar, probably kept slightly too long but still enjoyable!
From M & S, slightly oxidised with a small orangey-brown tint to this thin wine. Maintaining a low level fruity flavour tending towards olive with very little sugar, the 2 years of oak barrel aging come out quite strongly with a nutty underlying taste. Acidity is quite strong on the finish, but this is adequate to drink on its own or with pigs in blankets — a year ago

A great start to birthday celebrations kicking off, this was a great reminder of the Chateau Neuf region and what it offers. On the nose a baboom level of red, rip fruit with a hint of pepper. On the palate slightly more subtle flavours with complexity, retaining the fruit but adding a floral notes, then developing later on into a darker, tobacco tone. Texture was smooth with very fine tannins - all in all a pleasure to drink! — a year ago
