DAY 1
Served with the Vinlog System
👃Wonderful if slightly reticent. Deep, fresh, and perfumed
👅Not fully open? After > 3 hours: elegant, floral, polished. Silky tannins. Lovely finish
The remaining wine was Slow Decanted™️ in my refrigerator
Revisited the wine on two more occasions
DAY 14
Several hours in the glass…
👃Red and purple fruits. Tar with light florals. Bright and chalky
👅Significant fruit with tar, earth, licorice. Spicy
raspberry/cranbery on the long finish. Drinking
well
Fratelli Brovia remains somewhat under the radar despite producing first tier traditionally styles barolos from excellent vineyards
This Brea has the density expected of a Serralunga barolo coupled with the finesse, nuance, & drinkability that comes from excellent winemaking.
-Pretty lightfooted for a hot vintage
-Totally enjoyable after some time in the
glass on all 3 occasions👏🍷

The 2019 Dolcetto d'Alba Vignavillej is a deep, fleshy and voluminous wine. Inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, leather and licorice are all amplified in this decidedly large-scaled Dolcetto from Brovia. Most of this fruit is from the family's Brea property in Serralunga. $19.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2022) — 4 years ago

Had dinner with a friend at Bruno’s in Brea and she brought this bottle of nicely aged wine from her late husband’s collection. Really enjoyed, no point in waiting any longer to consume. — 2 years ago

Still some black fruit, but more interesting was the La Brea Tar Pits nose and finish. So much tar and squid ink. — 7 years ago
We drank this after the Enrico Serafino and it didn’t take long to realize this was a step up in class and character despite the challenges that Brovia faced in the 2014 vintage; a year in which they sold off half of their holdings. From what I understand, this cuvee, the first of its kind in Brovia’s history, was made using grapes from the lower sector of Brea and two crus from Castiglione Falletto. The idea being that blending the best wines together would be vastly superior to bottling individual and relatively weak wines from each cru. I can say unequivocally that the strategy worked. The “Unio” as they called it, does not come
across as a limpid example of Barolo. Quite then contrary, there is profound depth and concentration that slowly gained in power the longer the bottle was open. No short supply of dark berries accompanied by spices, fresh asphalt, rose bushes, and minerals. A rapturous, tongue smacking finish that lasts for minutes closing with some rather lusty tannins. What a treat. The 2014 Brovia “Unio” should age gracefully and I, for one, will be looking forward to tracking its development. — 8 years ago
